今週のサンデーアートスクロールは、ドイツ南部のカールスルーエに建つ「Center for Art and Media Karlsruh」から、現在開催中の展示『Bio Media』をご紹介。
展示名になっているバイオミメティック・メディア（BioMedia）とは、有機生命体の持つ知性や共感能力など、多くの側面をシミュレートすることで有機生命に似た行動を取ることができるメディアのこと。同展は人間や動物をはじめとする「有機生命体」と、テクノロジーによってつくられる「人工生命体」がいかにして共存できるかの疑問を投げかけ、模索している。16世紀のアニマトロニクス（生物を模したロボット）から21世紀のAIシステムまで、私たち人類は何世紀にもわたって有機生命体をシミュレートする機械の開発と制作に挑んできた。これを踏まえて同展では、アートとサイエンスが交差するダイナミックなシステムがいかにして実生活に応用できるかや、私たちのクリエイティビティを刺激するかについて探られている。有機生命体と人工生命体の境界線が日々アップデートされていくなかで、生きているものとは何であるのか。知的なものとは何であるのか。そしてこれらを定義するのは誰であるのだろうか。
